When I realized the theme for week 8 was “fierce” I wished I could use my picture of Charlie again. Instead, I had to get a little fierce with my studio lighting and me. It’s not my favorite entry in the showcase but I had fun with it.

My “transportation” photo took the top spot in week 7 of the photographers showcase! It was a lot of fun riding around down town St. Louis with a camera stuck to my chest and a shutter release in my mouth.

Photographers Showcase – Week 6 – Green

I had a really lofty vision for last week’s entry in the Photographers Showcase but realty took over and I just didn’t have the time. Excuses. Excuses.

As with the “rough” theme I tried to convey both rough texture and rough motion. With “green” I went with color and environmentalism. This photo was taken at the Downtown Tower Grove Farmers’ Market. I even rode my bike to the market to take the picture.

I was surprised that there weren’t more photos of produce entered… and I was even more surprised to learn I took the top spot in the professional division. Kudos to the student and amateur divisions! They took all the over all top spots.

Trash The Dress

Destroying your wedding dress is not for everyone… but for some, it’s a great way to use the dress again and get some stellar photos in the process. I had never shot a “Trash The Dress” session but I wanted to… so I did.

I asked myself what would look really good (or bad depending on how you look at it) on a wedding dress? The first thing that popped to mind was… motor oil.

The idea quickly grew into the story you’re about to see (either in the video slide show or just the image gallery itself). I enlisted the help of fellow photographer Abbie Rudolph of Abbie Takes Pictures and together we produced what ended up being quite a production. We worked together on the project but the images you’ll see on my websites are mine only. Abbie is a busy woman, she’s still working on hers.

St. Louis Photographers Showcase – Week 2

I’m participating in the St. Louis Photographers Showcase at Studio Altius this season. I heard about it about 2 hours before the entry deadline last week but managed to get in. This post is about my week two submission. The theme was “abstract.” It was a lot of fun coming up with an idea and shooting it.

Being an abstract I thought it would be fun to show you the shot, then what it is and how I shot it.

So, here it is:

105 MM Macro
ISO 200, 3.0 Sec, f/9.0
Flash: Photogenic 320B

I only made RAW adjustments in Lightroom on the image… there was no composting or painting done.
